Jul. 12th, 2008 @ 12:34 pm MARTA takes you everywhere
Did you know you can take MARTA from New York to San Francisco? At least you could if you lived in the 1990s of the early 1980s

The fun starts at about 5:45 into the clip.

BTW, MARTA Pub Crawl XV is next Saturday. The last one had over 120 people attend! That was just too large and insane so I'm limiting this one to fifteen people and not doing much to spread the word about it. If you want to attend, please RSVP at http://nightlife.meetup.com/755/calendar/8156812/

Ahahaha. Oh that is great. Thank you for sharing that.

Can you tell which stations those are? I thought Peachtree Center maybe? Given the issues we have with expansion ANYWHERE in the metro area I love the irony.

One of these days I will try and make the pubcrawl. I'm just not that social. I am one of those people with no car who uses transit only to get around although I have never ventured to many stations on the E/W past my stop or the NE line past Brookhaven. And I have been doing this 5 years.

The person who originally posted about the clip over on skyscraperpage.com had this information:

5:26-5:46: Filmed at the Hartsfield International Airport people-mover (Concourse A).

5:46-6:39: Filmed at the Ashby MARTA station on the West Line

6:40-8:12: Filmed on an actual MARTA train (original Franco-Belge 1979 rolling stock with padded seats)

8:13-10:55: Filmed at the Omni MARTA station on the West Line (now the Dome-GWCC-Philips Arena-CNN Center station)

A surprisingly large number of the attendees to the pub crawl have either never used MARTA or only have used it to get to the airport. Given that my original goal in organizing it was to help combat the many misconceptions people have about MARTA through the use of a social event (how better to get people to come out of their shells than with alcohol), it is good that there were so many first timers getting a positive first impression of the system. I was pretty happy with the large crowd last time because it showed an large increase in interest in using MARTA. Many of the attendees were from suburban and exurban counties! I'm actually helping other social networking groups learn how to run their own MARTA Pub Crawl. That'll allow me to go back to organizing smaller ones that are more focused on those who regularly use transit while they organize pub crawls aimed at the general public.

If you're not able to make it to this one, there will be another one in November. I try to do them three times a year. I don't know how often the other groups getting into the act are going to do their version.

The first station looks like ashby (5:30 ish) and the station at 8 looks like Peachtree Center.

Apparently not only can you travel to SF you can travel from east to north without transferring at all.

If this is correct they filmed at the airport, Ashby and CNN center.

I love mass transit in scifi.

You can also see MARTA in RoboCop 3. They're in the gulch when a MARTA train with lots of additional panels attached to it to make it look futuristic goes by.

I've been told that there is a junction from the south line to the east line somewhere between Georgia State station and Garnett that could lead to trains that go from east Atlanta to the airport should the data they're collecting from Breeze tapouts show a large enough demand.
